LIGISTICUM (ancient Rome) = Lovage (Spices). probably most often the leaf of the plant is meant.

LINDEN = LIME = Tilia cordata. The flowers [Linden Flowers (Period Potations)]are used to make the tea or tisane known as "tilleuil".

LIPA (Polish) = LINDEN.

LIPSTICK TREE = Annatto (Spices)

LIQUERIZIA (Italian) = Licorice Root (Comfits and Sweets).

LIQUORICE = Licorice Root (Comfits and Sweets).

LIQUAMEN (ancient Rome) was a salty fermented fish sauce. Fish Sauce (Spices) is a reasonable although not exact substitute.

Liquidambar orientalis = LEVANT STORAX.

Liquidambar styraciflua = SWEET GUM.

LIQUID STORAX = LEVANT STORAX, which grows in Asia Minor, or SWEET GUM, which grows in North and Central America.

LOCUST BEAN = CAROB.

Long Pepper (Spices) = Piper longum.

LORBEER (German) = Bay Leaf (Spices).

LORBEERBAUM (German) = Bay Leaf (Spices).
