Doug lives in the Westbank area of the new Westside District Municipality near
Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada . The area is located
in south central British Columbia and
is mid way between the significant Canadian cities of Calgary and Vancouver. Kelowna/Westbank is
at the mid section of OkanaganLake which is located in
the OkanaganValley.

Doug recently retired from a 33
year career in government with his most recent position being as BC
Interior/North District Manager for the Department of
Canadian Heritage of the Government of Canada. In this
work he specialized in supporting community based multicultural,
aboriginal, anti-racism, arts, cultural and heritage activities in the BC
Interior and North. He continues to hold a strong committment on social
justice issues in Canada and also has a professional interest in
Heritage Tourism. Doug studied at and completed degree and post
grad diploma programs at both the University of Victoria
and Notre Dame University of Nelson. In his volunteer life
he is active in a number of local community organizations, is current Vice
Chair of Interior
Savings Credit Union , and is past President and a current
Director of the Glenrosa
Residents' Association. From 2003 to 2007 he was also the Chair of the Westside Governance Committeewhich reviewed future municipal governance, boundary and service
delivery models for the Westside area of the Central
Okanagan. He was appointed in early 2006 to the new UBC
- Okanagan DVC Committee on Human
Rights and Equity. And in early 2007 he became a member-at-large of the Central Okanagan Branch of
the Federal Superannuates National Association.
Doug was a recipient of the Queen's Jubilee Medal in
2002.
Doug's wife is Willie Findlater,
(nee Hendriksen, from Netherlands
), who is a teacher at PeachlandElementary School.
Their 2 adult sons are David, (age 32, married to Kim), who has a
career in safety testing in the Ski/Snowboard and other
industries, with an infant daughter Arielle Rheanna (born June 10, 2006) and Paul, (age 27, married to Sara), who has been
volunteer firefighter and is aspiring to a career in professional
firefighting. Paul and Sara have two infant sons Bryce John Alexander - b. March 22, 2005, and Jaeden Andrew Peter (b May 31, 2006)
These three grandchildren are the new generation of Findlaters.
Doug has a copy of a document
entitled the Findlater History, which was authored by his grandfather's
cousin, Duncan Findlater of ManchesterEngland
in the 1960's. It deals with the background to FindlaterCastle
in northern Scotland,
and of the emigration of Scots based Findlater's to various parts of
the world. "Findlater" most likely means 'white hillsides' in Scots
Gaelic. This document is MSWord and/or PDF formats and is over
100 pages in length. Doug is happy to share this document with
other members of the Findlater clan via either email (at no cost)
or on CD-ROM at a nominal cost to cover CD and postage. Other

Here is a graphic of what the
Findlater family like to do most in the winter!! We enjoyed the 2006-2007 snow season at Big
White Ski Resort.. It was as good as it gets and we look forward to another season of playing in the powder snow!!
