Switch! - A fun activity to review
course material before a test.
I have used this activity with students from grades
7 through 12. I have no doubt it can be used with younger students
as well. I have found that this activity works equally well with the
older students as it does with the younger ones. One very nice thing
about it is that students really get into it and focus on the task
at hand. It has never failed to quieten down even the rowdiest of
my groups.
"It is a truism that the seeds
of violence and war are sown in the hearts of people long before they
actually erupt in violent crimes or on the battlefields of the world.
As a teacher, I have often felt that part of my mission was that of
a peacekeeper with a mandate to keep hostile forces apart and to help
bring about reconciliation and peace. I remember especially vividly
three instances in which I had to intervene to prevent skirmishes
between students from turning into all out war." -- Complete

Out
of the Mouths of Babes Jokes - Here is one - but there are many
more - of my favorites from this collection of delightful gems from
the mouths of young children:
A priest asked the children in 3rd grade CCD to quote
a text from scripture for each of the sacraments. For Baptism, one
child answered: "Unless you are baptized with water and the Holy
Spirit you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven." For Reconciliation,
another child replied: "Whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven."
"Very good," said the priest, "and who can tell me
a text about marriage?" There was a pause as the children hesitated,
and then after a few moments one of the children said: "Forgive
them Father, for they know not what they do."
A
Twinkle in the Dark by Barbara Wilmerton Haas - A retellling of
the the story of creation. There are also several links to other online
resources on the same theme at the bottom of the page. Unfortunatly,
several of these links are defunct, but some are not and lead to good
coloring pages and a song on creation.
(no longer
available) Disciples Now - The Place for Catholic Teens on the Web -
Articles for youth on music (including sound clips), movies, clusture,
faith heroes and the Catholic faith. the section called It's Catholic
contains a large number of articles on all aspects of the faith written
for teens. Celebrate offers very short comments on the Sunday readings
and on the weekly mass readings. Since you asked offers teens the possibility
of asking questions pertaining to their faith and the archives contains
the answers to a number of past answers to questions. There is also
a chat zone.
